The day saw around eight league matches, four quarter finals and two semi-finals.
With just more than a week left for the Dubai Fitness Challenge to end, employees of Galadari Brothers are putting their best foot forward, literally. This weekend was dedicated to the much loved sport by the expat population of the UAE, cricket.
Seventeen teams from across the Galadari Brothers group battled it out for the Galadari Cricket Championship title that was held at the Spring Sports Academy at JSS Private School from 7.30am until late evening.
To boost the morale of the teams and to motivate them, Suhail Galadari, Director of Galadari Brothers, was also present on the field.
Suhail Galadari, who is an avid cricketer himself, said: “Cricket is a passion for most of us. What makes it doubly satisfying is the fact that you represent your company in an activity that you enjoy immensely. I’m happy to say that our employees are keeping up the momentum by getting involved seriously and taking it to a new level. The Dubai 30X30 Challenge has created a sense of euphoria among employees and we believe that employees who exercise together get to know each other and this translates into enhanced relationships.”
Manoj Kumar, Galadari Brothers Chief Human Resources Officer, said: “We are currently ranking number one on the Dubai Fitness Challenge app in the group participation category and we hope to keep the momentum on and secure the first place. Because of the large scale events we are having, our employees are showing great enthusiasm and are participating in large numbers. For me, more than winning, the welfare of the employees is important and it is beautiful to see how all the employees of different companies of Galadari Brothers are bonding well as they meet regularly over weekends and play together. The Galadari Brothers fabric is seen today as we all come together as one big family, that’s a win for me as we have emerged as one strong team talking the same language of fitness.”
Kumar said the fitness challenge at the group will conclude on November 15 at a mega closing event. “Next week will be our mega event to mark the end of the month-long fitness challenge. It will be a carnival-themed event with a huge stage at the centre and game and food stalls dotted around the grounds. We are expecting a crowd of around 2,000 people of our group’s employees and their families where we will offer them free food and games and of course, some fun fitness routines.”
Shishir Kapadia, Senior Vice-President – Finance and Operations at Khaleej Times, was also present on the ground, bucking up players. “Many of us played cricket in school or college last and due to time constraints and responsibilities, never got a chance to play the game later. This kind of activity gives our staff members a chance to reconnect with the game.”
The day saw around eight league matches, four quarter finals and two semi-finals. The finals will be held next week on Friday at the closing weekend of the fitness challenge, when Galadari Brothers will hold a mega closing event for its employees and their families at the ICC grounds in Sports City.
Armed with cricket bats, wickets and tennis balls, around 200 staff members took to the cricket field, while another 100 staff members along with their families formed the audience.
